Wasting my pretty? I say, no more!
The “Amazazazing Whitney” sent me a link to an extremely funny and accurate blog called “The Single Mormon Girl’s Guide to Life” (There’s a link under “Amazing Blogs” on this page). As I was reading, laughing, and agreeing with almost everything she said; I came across a post titled “Don’t waste the pretty”. In it is her interpretation of the book “He’s just not that into you” and a story about her own experience dating a loser.
I’m sitting at my desk reading this story, which in some ways has paralleled something in my life, and it hits me. That’s exactly what I’m doing, I’m wasting my pretty!
Why?
Why was I wasting my pretty on someone who was obviously not worth my consideration?
Was it because there is a lack of good guys in my social circle?
No. Actually, I know a lot of guys I would consider dating (if they asked).
Was it because of some lack of self-esteem that I was drawn to men like that?
No. Even though sometimes I think there are elements of the ridiculous about me and I may occasionally go overboard personality wise in social situations. I may even, at times, have doubts about my appearance or mental, emotional, and physical abilities; but deep down I know that I’m a smart, attractive, fun, talented, creative, adorable woman.
My theme songs are “You’re So Vain” and “Foxy Lady”, so yeah, no issue there!
So I ask you again. Why am I wasting my pretty?? Why do I waste my time on guys that I know will burn me, crush me, make feel like just any other girl, or simply don’t “get” me? Is it because there’s a small part of my brain, hidden deep away, that is telling me to pursue guys like that because I know it won’t go anywhere? Do I have commitment issues?
Maybe, on occasion I’ve had an issue or two, but after reading that blog I think I’ve figured it out. There IS a voice in my brain telling me to pursue them, not because of any committal problems, but because I know that the only person that really gets hurt in that situation is me.
It explains why when I was 15 and the boy I liked asked me to dance I said no and literally ran away. Why would I do something like that, especially if I liked him? That’s because I have liked two types of guys in my lifetime, the “good” guys, and the “not so good” guys. It seems as if the only ones I feel comfortable enough to pursue are the “not so good” guys. Why, because if I have to let them down in the relationship future, it’s not a big deal. They weren’t especially nice to begin with.
But if a “good” guy likes me, I flip out. That’s because I know there’s a possibility that I will have to hurt him in the future, and for whatever reason, I’d rather skip any potential happiness than do that.
Lame.
Well it stops here! I am no longer pushing guys aside just because I don’t want to hurt their feelings, because you know what? I’m missing out, and it’s not going to happen anymore!

Invasion of the Body Snatchers!
About a week ago I had one of the craziest dreams. It involved my friends, family, kicking a woman in the face, trying to flee to Canada, and Nazis. It was very “Invasion of the Body Snatchers”, except without all the alien bits. Although it was weird and left me in a cold sweat, I haven’t really thought about it again. Until this morning, that’s because last night I had a very similar dream. Except this time it was actually “Invasion of the Body Snatchers”, but only by touching you could they notice you hadn’t been “turned”. They would then ask if you would like to be “turned”. Very strange, but polite! Anyway, even though it was a super polite alien invasion, we were still trying to flee to Canada-weird. Is Canada really as safe as it is in my dreams?

Dance, Dance, Dance…all weekend long!
Okay, sorry I have been MIA for a little over a month. It’s not like I’ve been super busy and done lots of things, but for some reason I haven’t wanted to blog…until now.
I had a pretty eventful weekend almost a month back, April 10th through the 13th in fact. So, here’s the lowdown-April 10th, went out dancing. April 11th, went to a church dance, possibly the worst church dance I have ever been to-it had the lamest music! April 12th, Ciara’s going away happy hour party and dance (she left us for Utah…so sad!). I think I was one of about five people that were actually dancing.
Eliza, Layne, Ciara, Ben, John, and I drinking the largest virgin drink ever!
And last but not least, actually far from least. On April 13th Leah, Whitney, and I were able to score tickets to see Tift Merritt at the Tractor Tavern in Ballard.
For those of you that have not been or not familiar with Ballard, as I am (or anyone else I was with) it was a little tricky to find. It took us a little more than a half an hour to find it once we were in Ballard. But once we found it (and parking), it was actually a pretty neat place!
I wish I had taken pictures of the inside, they had great decorations and a cute little stage. Not only were we lucky enough to see Tift Merritt, opening for her was the incredibly adorable Sara Watkins!
Seriously, the cutest ever, and super talented. It was just her on the stage alternating with the fiddle and the ukulele, it was awesome! Then finally, after a huge break between the two, Tift came on. It was amazing-amazazazing, in fact! Words can not describe how awesome she was, not only is she an amazing singer, songwriter, and musician; but she’s also an amazing showman. Seriously, she put on the best show!

Weekend Goodness
This last weekend Leah, Amy, Whitney and I went to see a The Band’s Visit. If you haven’t heard of it, it’s about an Egyptian Police Band that gets stuck in a very small Israeli town on their way to play a concert. It was really good, very amusing, and not to mention had a cute guy in it, which always makes a movie good. :D Oh and you would not believe how gorgeous the women in it were!
After the film Leah, Whitney, and I went to the end of Joe Dee’s swing dance. We had a ball dancing with Layne (who was DJing) and trying to get Jon to dance, with little success, but that’s normal. :D
Saturday night we went to our ward’s service auction. It was the first time I had gone; the four of us (Leah, Whitney, Amy, and me) put “an hour of hearts and giggles” up for auction. I was very anxious in deciding what to auction off, seeing as I didn’t want to be tied into something big, I wasn’t sure who would get it, and literally couldn’t figure out something I was good enough at that I could share with someone else. So, I thought “what am I good at??” and I immediately thought “giggles”. :D Plus it was vague and unclear as to what that would consist of and it was only for an hour, which was doable. We all decided that we could spare an hour to frolic around and be silly, seeing as we always do. ;D
It was neat; we each had a paper plate with a number on it (I was 16), and $500 University First Ward dollars. $1, $5, $10, $20, $50, and $100 dollar bills, and they had either a member of the Bishopric or one of their wives on each. The four of us bought Mike Holm’s and/or service. Seriously, he had a list of and/ors of things that we could do on the back. It was so amusing; we had to bid on it. Then I bid on “I will listen to your rant for a half an hour and agree with everything you say”. If you know me, you know I love to rant, so I had to have it. It ended up being Michael Hammond’s and after it was over I told him that it was priceless, which it is! The last thing we got was a “DJ your party”-and since we love to dance, we got that too. It ended up being Layne’s, which was perfect! :D

Shopping for Whitney's Birthday Cupcake/Ice Skating Party 3/7/08
For Whitney’s 21st Birthday party, we did a little shopping at UVillage for Birthday Cupcake/Ice Skating supplies. First stop, The Confectionary.
Whitney, showing off her Birthday Cupcake Headdress. Too bad it was so overpriced; I would have bought it and made her wear it ice skating. Did you notice the little cupcake on top? It would have been too perfect for the party! :D
So, after wandering around the store for about 20 minutes, I decided that I want to have a date take me to The Confectionary. It would be so much fun, picking out candy, looking at all their knickknack candy things, and (my favorite part of the store) salivating over the amazing chocolates that they have.
After picking out some beautiful ribbon candy, some purple and as Whitney described “Caribbean Blue” (teal) candy covered chocolates, we headed off to our next destination-Mrs. Cooks.
Mrs. Cooks is a very amusing store (Somehow along the way we renamed the store to Mrs. Pots-don't ask) if you haven’t been in there, you should. We found a really lovely cupcake rack, which would have been perfect for the party, but it was 40 dollars and we couldn't rationalize spending that much. Isn't it adorable, though?
After picking out paper cupcake holders, frosting dyes (purple and teal), some cute “domestically disabled” mugs, and four purse sized cocktail forks (for emergency forkage of faces, obviously), we found a section of silicon oven mitts.
I named this picture "Attack of the Lobster Lady!". I think maybe at this point the ladies that worked there might have been slightly annoyed by us (and the fact that we had been in there for over an hour and hadn’t bought anything yet) but if they didn’t want people to linger, they shouldn’t put such amusing things in their store! :D

Gold and Green Ball
Even though I didn't get asked to the dance, the music was lame, and there was only a couple guys there that I could show off my "bumble buzz" to, all us girls got together and went stag to the Gold and Green ball. After about a week of trying to convince guys to go (no amount of coaxing seemed to work), finally, when we were in line for our pictures, Layne walked in. Because of his willingness, finally, to attend, we got a few pictures with him. Gee, I wonder what would have happened if some of the other guys we invited came? Imagine, I could have been sitting on your knee, with my arms around your neck. It's a shame really; you guys could have gotten quite a bit of action.
Carolyn, Me, Amy, Handsome Layne, Leah, and Whitney
This could have been you.....
surrounded by all these beautiful women.....
Oh, look a shoe shot. See, I was a little bumble bee, you should have seen my buzzzzzz shake......

Lights…Camera…Action!
Ward activities can be fun, especially when the activity is filming a movie. That’s right, when you’re in a singles ward; the activities are cool and fun!
My group decided, after much debating, to do a “Leave it to Beaver” spoof, entitled “Leave it to Georgi” (named after the lead in our production-Sean Georgi). I don’t want to give too much away until after it premieres in a couple weeks. Until then, here are some production pictures from February 2nd.

Another group shot. Starting on the left, Ryan, Mark, me, Sean, David, Christine, and Amy.

Well, when you run out of chairs…..
